Deputy of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, Bahman Namvar-Motlaq, said on Sunday morning that the World Crafts Council registered cities of Marivan in Kurdistan Province and Sirjan in Kerman Province as world cities of handicrafts and Kalpourgan village in Sistan and Baluchestan Province as a world village of handicrafts .
The UNESCO international handicrafts assessors and supervisors had visited these cities two months ago to take final steps to register the city on the world heritage list and following their report, the council voted to inscribe Marivan as the world city of traditional handmade shoes called Kalash, Sirjan as the world city of Kilim Rugs and also Kalpourgan as the world village of pottery which are made by women.
Other cities already listed as the world cities include Mashhad for its gemstone, Lalejin for its pottery, Isfahan for its handicrafts, and Tabriz for its hand-woven carpets. Namvar-Motlaq said Iran ranks the first country regarding the number of its cities and villages registered in the World Crafts Council with 6 cities and 1 village.
This is while Yazd has been listed as the first historical city of Iran, two months ago in 9th of July and accompanied by these registrations, this summer was a great success for Iran’s culture and history.
