The festival of nomads, an 8 year-old event, will be held this Friday, May 4, in Bileh Savar County, Ardabil, on the border line of Iran and Azerbaijan Republic. The festival’s main theme would be introducing local traditions, customs and lifestyle in an attempt to empower local community.
Hasan Ghobadi, governor of Bileh Savar said: “more than 22000 nomads live in this county and this is just 40 percent of total nomad population living in Ardabil. Besides the nomads of Bileh Savar County, other nomads of Ardabil Province, including 43 tribes, are to participate in this festival.”
The festival, usually held in May, is an opportunity for nomads to present their economic, cultural and social potentials as an active player in society who produce their own products and handicrafts. Though not as authentic as living with nomads, it is a good opportunity for tourists and travelers as well to spend a day with different tribes of nomads and experience various aspects of their life all at one place.
The festival includes different activities ranging from playing folkloric music to setting up tents and pergola, holding nomadic wedding, serving local foods, displaying traditional clothes, playing local games, commemorating tribesmen and selling the nomadic products.
