Iran is a vast mountainous land and has more than 15 ski resorts spread all over its territory. Heavy snowfalls occur during the winter, offering great possibilities for skiing and ski touring.

In this article, I would like to introduce you to 3 of the southmost ski resorts of Iran: Pooladkaf, Chelgerd and Fereydunshahr ski resorts.
Why? Because skiing there is a unique opportunity to meet local communities, share magical moments and ski in virgin powder fields. Of course ski resorts are small and you will find neither the longest nor the steepest slopes of Iran here. However, the overall experience and ski touring possibilities are absolutely worth a try.
Pooladkaf ski resort
Pooladkaf is the south most ski resort of Iran. Hard to believe, but the resort stands less than 200 km away from the Persian Gulf.
Bought in 2000 by a private industrial group, the resort is the fifth biggest in Iran. It is equipped with a draglift and one gondola. The resort offers a wide variety of activities and amenities such as skiing, snowboarding, rental shop, skidoo, horse riding, hotel and restaurants.
Its proximity to Shiraz (80km) makes it an interesting destination to combine skiing and sightseeing.

Chelgerd ski resort
Chelgerd is a secluded village in the heart of Zagros mountain range. It is located about 200 km away from Isfahan, one of the most visited city in Iran and famous for its great sights. Tourists from Shahr-e Kord or Isfahan come to Chelgerd during weekends and holidays to enjoy fresh air and outdoor activities.
The ski resort is relatively small and equipped with 2 draglifts, a snow groomer and other sport facilities. The ski pass is so far the cheapest in Iran. This resort has a huge potential for ski touring. Every winter, several guides from Europe come here with their clients to enjoy some of the nicest ski touring trails of Iran. You will find there all amenities needed: hotels, restaurants and small shops.

Altitude: 2350m – 3550m
Fereydunshahr ski resort
The city of Fereydunshahr is quite unique in Iran as its inhabitants speak Georgian in addition to Persian! The place is known for its tough winter and heavy snow falls.
The ski resort is located less than 10 kilometres away from the city and is equipped with one draglift, one rope tow and a chairlift leading to a Zipline. From the city the cost of a taxi to get there is about € 1.5.
The only draglift gives a straight access to the top at 3,050m. From the summit, you can ride several fun and easy off-piste trails. The potential for ski touring in the region is huge with dozens of peak higher than 4,000m and steep lines.
In Fereydunshahr, you will find all amenities required for a ski trip: Hotel, restaurant, shops. If you want to sleep right in front of the slopes, the main building is equipped with beds, showers and toilets.
